Valentina Tomlinson, Dean of Rachmaninoff Music Academy will be teaching a master class, “Evolution in Scales “. Discover the secrets to transforming scales from a tedious exercise into an essential, enjoyable part of your practice. Learn how scales can enhance sound quality, improve hand agility, and optimize your practice sessions. With proper warm-up techniques, scales will become a powerful tool, helping your hands fly across the keyboard and bring strength and ease to your playing. At the end of this master class I will have you saying, "I love scales!"

Valentina’s master classes, hosted annually, attract both novice and experienced pianists, eager to learn her secrets for mastering technique and performance.

About the instructor:
Valentina Tomlinson, a dedicated music educator and the Dean of the Rachmaninoff Music Academy, has spent her career transforming the way students approach music. With an advanced degree in music education, Valentina began her journey as a piano instructor at a music college and concert pianist for Opera and Ballet Theatre. She later founded her own academy for young children, where her focus on creativity and musical enjoyment inspired countless students. As a passionate advocate for accessible music education, Valentina has led initiatives to support low-income families, providing free lessons and instruments to students in need. Through her Rachmaninoff Academy, Canada’s certified educational institution approved by the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, she has introduced innovative programs, including master classes, charity concerts, even the World’s First International Scale-playing competition, and now starts working on the 6th International Scales Competition.

Her own struggle to regain piano technique after years away from keyboard deepens her empathy for students’ challenges, leading her to develop methods that make learning scales enjoyable and transformative. Valentina has several books on music, including “Evolution in Scales“, which provides insight into her teaching philosophy. Her works are proudly housed in Canada’s National Library.
